Cast Iron presents its credentials

A new publication from the Cast Iron Drainage Development Authority (CIDDA) has been introduced to set out the environmental advantages of cast iron drainage systems. The Cast Iron Credentials briefing document highlights the range of environmental benefits offered by cast iron in 21st century building applications.

Mike Rawlings of CIDDA explains: “The purpose of this briefing document is to summarise cast iron’s impressive environmental benefits.

Increasingly, the construction industry is being driven by both public concerns and legislative requirements to look to the use of energy sustainable materials.”

“Architects, specifiers and construction professionals are faced with choosing between a wide range of materials for waste water drainage products, often having to consider the balance between cost and environmental impact. Increasingly it is the environmental factor that decides the issue and this is where cast iron leads the field.”

Other reasons for choosing cast iron highlighted by the briefing document include recyclability, stability in brownfield locations which can be subject to ground movement, and strength and durability. Furthermore, cast iron is endorsed by Greenpeace as a material they recommend for drainage products.

The Cast Iron Credentials briefing document is available free of charge from CIDDA at Wyatt House, 72 Francis Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B16 8BR. The CIDDA hotline number is 0121 693 9909.
