Royal
Opera House Sings Praises of Cast Iron
A range of cast iron drainage products
has been installed as part of a £170 million project to redevelop
and refurbish The Royal Opera House.
Approximately 400 metres of drainage pipes manufactured by CIDDA
members have been supplied to Ellmer Construction who installed
the system in the basement of the auditorium, which is being refurbished.
The construction is being managed by Schal and on completion, rehearsals,
performances and administration for both The Royal Opera and The
Royal Ballet will be able to take place under one roof.
Gareth Lewis, Schals Project
Manager explains why cast iron was chosen:
"Cast iron offers a wide
range of advantages including strength, durability and non-combustibility
which is particularly important in such a high profile public
building."
