The new product standard
incorporates a wider range, increasing the scope of pipe and fitting
diameters from DN40 to DN600 inclusive, and also incorporates
BS416, BS437, BS460 and BS6087.
Applying to cast iron
pipework used in the construction of discharge systems from buildings,
normally by gravity flow, above ground soil, waste, rainwater
buried systems, it covers the performance requirements in these
applications. It also covers coatings, mechanical properties,
such as tensile and crushing strengths, and testing methods required
of manufacturer.
Designed to further
increase the quality and performance of cast iron products over
other materials by introducing a new set of stringent requirements,
it is anticipated that the BS EN 877 standard will become the
international norm applicable to other markets outside the UK
and Europe.
|
 |
To comply with BS EN 877,
the manufacturer must operate strict management control systems - ie.
BS EN ISO 9001 to achieve the high performance requirements, and therefore
provides even greater protection for the end user.
Third party endorsement
Prior to the introduction of this new product standard, third party
accreditation was available through the BBA (British Board of Agrément).
The BBA verified the system as 'fit for purpose' and ensured against
contravening the building regulations, supported by various physical
and performance tests.

With the publication of
BS EN 877 product standard, cast iron drainage systems, which strive
to meet the most stringent independent evaluation, can seek the
highly coverted kitemark. |
| Still recognised today throughout
the UK and world markets as the ultimate in third party endoresement
- assessed specifically to the product standard BS EN 877. |
